Tussen de bloedgroepen van team Antwerpen is geen rivaliteit
Stelden we al eerder de Gentenaren voor, nu is het tijd voor het andere team: de Antwerpenaren. Eigenlijk geen vast team, maar een equipe samengesteld uit spelers van verschillende projecten uit de bruisende havenstad.
Eigenlijk zijn het tegenstanders, vertelt Kristof Van de Velde, begeleidster van het Antwerpse team dat deelneemt aan de European Life Goals Games in Utrecht. “In onze stad hebben we twee teams die eigenlijk grote rivalen zijn: Younited Beerschot en Antwerp Streetboys. Samen wordt dat Younited Antwerpen. Binnen dat team bestaat juist geen enkele rivaliteit. Zo laten we zien dat voetbal geen oorlog hoeft te zijn, maar juist dat vriendschap en fairplay essentieel zijn.”
Dat fairplay hoog in het vaandel staat, bleek ook tijdens een voorval enige tijd geleden. Tijdens een toernooi raakte een tegenstander geblesseerd en moest het veld verlaten. Er zaten geen wisselspelers meer op bank. Jammer dan, zou je denken, maar dat was niet het geval. Een van de Antwerpse spelers sloot zich spontaan bij de tegenstander aan en voetbalde vrolijk verder. Kristof: “Dit voorval laat zien dat het niet om het resultaat gaat, maar dat voetbal een fantastisch medium kan zijn om mensen bij elkaar te brengen en met elkaar te leren omgaan.”
In Utrecht hopen de Antwerpen hun verbinding te versterken, maar vooral te werken aan het zelfvertrouwen en het zelfbeeld. Kristof: “Dankzij dit toernooi leren we andere mensen en culturen kennen. Daarbij komen we ook nog eens in een andere stad in een ander land. Met alle activiteiten die in Utrecht op het programma staan, kunnen we ook nog eens onze skills versterken. We hopen goed te presteren, maar vooral heel veel fun te hebben.”

There is no rivalry between the blood groups of team Antwerp
We previously introduced the Gentenaren, now it’s time for the other team: the Antwerpers. Not actually a permanent team, but a team composed of players from various projects from the bustling port city.
They are actually opponents, says Kristof Van de Velde, supervisor of the Antwerp team that participates in the European Life Goals Games in Utrecht. “In our city we have two teams that are really big rivals: Younited Beerschot and Antwerp Streetboys. Together that will become Younited Antwerp. There is absolutely no rivalry within that team. In this way we show that football does not have to be a war, but that friendship and fair play are essential.”
That fair play is of paramount importance was also apparent during an incident some time ago. During a tournament, an opponent was injured and had to leave the field. There were no more substitutes on the bench. Too bad, you might think, but that was not the case. One of the Antwerp players spontaneously joined the opponent and happily continued to play football. Kristof: “This incident shows that it is not about the result, but that football can be a fantastic medium to bring people together and learn to interact with each other.”
In Utrecht, the Antwerp people hope to strengthen their connection, but above all to work on self-confidence and self-image. Kristof: “Thanks to this tournament, we get to know other people and cultures. In addition, we also come to another city in another country. With all the activities on the program in Utrecht, we can also strengthen our skills. We hope to perform well, but above all have a lot of fun.”
